Many courses are taught in English, but studying in Japan also gives you the opportunity to become fluent in another language. Japanese is a valuable language skill for international business, research, and for understanding their vibrant culture.

You can study a degree in Japan at one of five different types of colleges: Colleges of Technology, Professional Training Colleges (‘senmom gakko’), Junior Colleges, Colleges and Universities and Graduate Schools. There is a wide range of courses in Japan to choose from, from language and undergraduate degrees in Japan to post-graduate, MBAs and research study.

Japanese Universities have an excellent reputation around Asia and the world – 11 Japanese universities are ranked in the Times Higher Education Supplement Top 200 universities. Most universities in Japan offer many scholarships for international students – which can help with the higher cost of living and tuition fees.

When you study in Japan, you will discover both a high-tech world of the future and an ancient culture – from the bustling 24-hour streets of Tokyo to peaceful Zen gardens and the gentle art of flower arranging. You’ll also meet fellow students from all over the world through your course in Japan – friends who will be a great network for your future international career.

• Graduate course fees are on average 802,800 JPY per year
• College course fees are on average 548,400 JPY per year
• Course duration is generally 4 years for undergraduate courses and 1+ years for postgraduate courses

• Main intake in April each year, but some universities permit students to enter at a different time, such as in October
• Some classes are run year-round, but classes are usually divided into semesters, lasting through the first semester (April - September) or the second semester (October - March).
• There are usually three long vacations at Japanese institutions of higher education during the academic year: the summer break (late July - late August), winter break (late December - early January) and spring break (late February - early April).
• The procedures that need to be taken to enter Japan as a foreign student are as follows:
  > Gain admission to a higher educational institution > Acquire a passport > Acquire a visa
  Please inquire at an overseas Japanese embassy or consular office for details regarding visas. Please note that a "temporary visitor" visa is normally needed to enter Japan in order to take an entrance examination.
